CENTRAL TELECOM LISTED IN REGION'S TOP

A Burton telecommunications company has been recognised for its sustained growth and contribution to the local economy by being named in the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50 Awards.

Central Telecom, whose headquarters is The Maltings, Wetmore Road in the town, is acknowledged as the benchmark for performance in the technology sector.

The company was founded in 1985 and is now firmly established as one of the UK's leading integrated communications specialists. It implements leading edge communications solutions across a diversity of market sectors and has more than 200,000 end users, ranging from SME's, to blue-chip and public sector organizations.

Partnerships with all of the industry's major players enable Central Telecom to exploit the latest technologies and deliver total communications solutions tailored to customers' individual voice and data requirements.

This involves the integration of telephony, computing, voice processing, data and messaging network services, plus a range of cabling and support services.

The company is also a market leader in the field of Customer Relationship Management and is establishing a reputation as a centre of innovation and excellence.

Over the past 12 months turnover and profitability have continued to exceed all expectations in the face of severe market competition by gaining market share, with a turnover target of £20 million this year.

The company currently employs more than 170 staff across its Burton-on-Trent, Guildford and Manchester sites. Managing Director Andrew McDougall collected the award at a special Awards Ceremony, which took place at the National Motorcycle Museum.

"We are delighted to listed in the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50 Awards, which are widely respected both within the industry and in the wider business community," commented Andrew.

"To receive such a prestigious award is a reflection of our growing success and further reinforces our reputation for providing a top class service within what is a fiercely competitive industry," he added.

Chris Robertson, partner in charge of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications sector at Deloitte & Touche in Birmingham commented:

"Our Fast 50 programme has been a huge success since its inception. The Midlands is, without doubt, becoming an increasingly significant region for technology and growth, aided by the quality of our universities and science parks and the ambition of local development agencies."

"The strength of this year's entries demonstrates that companies which focus on the quality of their business models, management teams and processes can not only withstand the industry's recent turmoil, but prosper too. It is encouraging to see technology clusters springing up across the region with both the more established and younger companies performing well despite harsher trading conditions. added Mr Robertson.

The Fast 50 programme, now in its fourth year, tracks the growth rates of technology companies operating in the telecommunications, hardware, software and biotechnology markets across seven regions in the UK and Ireland.

It is co-sponsored by UK law firm and technology specialist, Pinsent Curtis Biddle, and techMARK, the London Stock Exchange market for technology companies. The Computing Services and Software Association is also supporting the programme this year. The latest accolade follows hot on the heels of a number of major awards for Central Telecom.

The company is accredited by all of the major names in the communications industry and can count the titles of Avaya Gold Strategic Alliance Partner, BT Premier Partner, Cisco Premier Partner; Korus Platinum Partner amongst its growing list of credits. It was voted Dealer of the Year for the fifth consecutive year by Network Finance, was awarded the title of the number one reseller in the UK by world leader Siemens and has recently been voted runner-up in the Best Business to Business Web Site Category at the Big Chip Awards.
