PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Central’s project management process is based on an adapted Prince2 model called PM FOCUS™. PM FOCUS™ is a customised implementation of the PRINCE2 Project Management method, developed by Central Telecom, and is specifically geared towards the telecommunications industry.
PRINCE2 is not specifically designed for a vendor/customer relationship and therefore PM FOCUS™ has adapted PRINCE2 to make it effective. Whilst it has been adapted, we have retained all of the elements of PRINCE2 which are designed to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
At the heart of PM FOCUS™ is the ‘Customer Log File’, which is an Excel spreadsheet that will be updated on a regular basis. The ‘Customer Log File’ will be distributed after meetings or following a major update. It will contain the following information:
- Solution - a summary of the proposed solution, together with an equipment list used as a reference point for all parties.
- Sites Log - a list of site addresses and contact details relevant to this project, together with a progress log for managing site audits
- Action Log - a continuous list of actions captured from meetings or other sources; plus associated milestones, meetings and events; as well as recording of follow-on activities. In addition, there is an optional Gantt chart which may be used instead of MS Project.
- Decisions Log - a list of decisions captured from meetings or other sources
- Contacts Log - a list of all persons relevant to this project with contact details
- Organisation & Communication Plan - a project organisation structure, showing roles and responsibilities, plus the communication plan and escalation paths
- Risk Log - a list of all considered risks
- Issue Log - a list of all issues raised during the project
- Rack layout - diagrammatic representation of equipment racking requirements
- Change Control & Problem Management Log - a record of any change controls requests and outstanding problems
- Info links - hyperlinks to key reference documents
- Diagrams - any relevant diagrams, such as site, room or rack layouts.
- Quality Log - a list of quality criteria to be met
- Lessons Learned Log - a list of any lessons either good or bad
